Rugby: Musselburgh keep on winning as Ellon are repelled

Musselburgh extended their winning run in RBS National League Division One to seven matches when they saw off Ellon 39-10 at Stoneyhill.

The kick off was delayed after the visitors were stuck in traffic, but there was no hanging about by Burgh who quickly took control of proceedings and eased to a win that extends their lead in the table over Hawick YM to three points.

The Borderers, who had been pipped by Burgh seven days earlier, turned the tables to snatch a 20-18 win at Murrayfield Wanderers with a last minute penalty. It was a third successive agonising defeat for Wanderers, who had lost by a single point in each of their two previous outings. Bruce Aitchison’s men have now slipped to fifth in the table and have been dealt another blow with the news that their scrum half and skipper James Bartolo will be moving south.

Edinburgh University Blues rediscovered the winning feeling then they eased to a 40-5 win at home to Langholm, while a second-half fight back by RHC Cougars came too late to avoid being on the wrong end of a 29-13 score line against Kilmarnock at Barnton.

Meanwhile, Linlithgow chalked up their first win of the campaign when they emerged from their trip to face Garnock as 7-3 winners. Basement side Livingston are still winless after going down 53-9 against Dunfermline at Almond Park.
