Scotland age-group cap Adam Hastings has earned promotion to the Bath Rugby Senior Academy after impressing while a member of the club’s junior set-up last season.
The son of former Scotland and British & Irish Lions captain, Gavin, the stand off combined his involvement at Bath with an education Millfield School in Somerset, having moved from George Watson’s. Indeed, he now qualifies to play for England on residential grounds, although he has no plans to pursue that route.
Hastings is one of six youngsters moving up from Bath’s junior academy and is joined by former Merchiston Castle schoolboy Zach Mercer, a back row player and an England age group cap, who is also following in the footsteps of a well known father – Gary Mercer having played rugby league for New Zealand and more recently Glasgow Warriors defence coach as well as being involved at the Caledonia Regional Academy before heading south last summer.
Bath have high expectations for the latest intake of talent. George Tavner, assistant academy manager, said: “We are delighted that these boys have signed with Bath Rugby and look forward to welcoming them into our senior academy group as they start pre-season this week.”
