The crack Barbarians rugby side could be heading for Edinburgh before the end of this season with a match being lined up for Goldenacre to mark Heriot’s 125th anniversary.
The Evening News understands talks are under way that would bring the world-famous select to the Capital for the first time since commemorating Edinburgh Accies’ 150th milestone in front of a sell-out Raeburn Place crowd in 2008.
Links between Heriot’s and the Baa-baas have strengthened recently with Colin Goudie and Cammy Ferguson being selected last season.
A few weeks ago another Heriot’s stalwart, scrum-half Graham Wilson, got the call to face Combined Services and although the Barbarians can no longer field international-class line-ups on every occasion in the pro era, selections are invariably strong with the emphasis on attacking play.
Heriot’s will be keen to fulfil the fixture at Goldenacre which has a greater capacity than the 3,000 who packed Raeburn Place six years ago.
But, with no floodlights available, it is anticipated the match will take place on a spring evening.
