Boroughmuir look to avoid giving Watsonians a head start

Boroughmuir coach Peter Wright is urging his men to avoid a repeat of the errors that blighted their efforts last Saturday when his men welcome Watsonians to Meggetland tomorrow (kick-off 3pm) in a BT Premiership reprise of last week's scintillating cup encounter.

Wright’s only selection change is the inclusion of Ryan Montgomery, replacing the suspended Dale Robertson at loosehead.

“We gave Watsonians a head start something we must avoid this week,” said Wright.

Sonians coach Steve Lawrie has a trio of Millers in his side, with James of that ilk called up in the back row and Ewan coming in on the wing, while Darren retains the hooker’s jersey.

Lawrie, who was disappointed with the way his men allowed Muir back into last week’s encounter before snatching a last-ditch victory, said: “In training this week we have worked hard on improving our defence and discipline whilst consolidating our work in attack.”

Should Sonians fail to secure a bonus-point win, Currie Chieftains can clinch a home play-off by taking all five league points from their match at home to basement side Marr (2.30pm).

Chieftains coach Ben Cairns names an unchanged pack and has two changes behind the scrum, where Cammy Gray starts on the wing and Harvey Elms returns following his Scotland sevens commitments and injury.

Cairns is taking nothing for granted, saying: “We know we have to bring our top levels if we are to get the result in what could be our last home match of the season.”

Heriot’s have a game in hand but sit just outside the play-off places in fifth ahead of their trip to face leaders Melrose. The Borderers have already secured a top-two finish but have shown signs of fallibility in recent weeks, offering a glimmer of hope for Heriot’s who had a crucial victory over Ayr last time out.

“That win has given the players renewed confidence that had maybe been missing against Hawick and Watsonians,” said Heriot’s coach Phil Smith. “The key is to make sure we maintain some standards that were set that day if we want to extend our season.”
