Six Edinburgh-based players will be turning out for the Co-Optimists in the first leg of the GB7s at Meggetland tomorrow.
The side have replaced the Scottish Thistles on the circuit this year which also has events in Coventry (June 6) and Colwyn Bay (June 13).
Coached by former Scotland player Graham Shiel, the Co-Optimists team is made up mainly of players from the top two club divisions in the country.
The Capital-based players named in the squad are Nyle Godsmark and Ruaridh Young (both Edinburgh Accies), Boroughmuir duo Alex Cox and Greg Cannie and Watsonians’ Jack Ferguson and Reiss Cullen.
Gosdsmark and Ferguson – the latter is on the way back from injury – have both been involved with the Scotland Sevens set-up this year.
Given that they won the Kings of the Sevens in the Borders it is no surprise to see Gala men David O’Hagan and Craig Robertson in the squad while three Melrose players – Richard Mill, Lewis Mallin and Tom Wilson – are included.
Gavin Parker (Exeter University), Will Wardlaw (Howe of Fife) and Robbie Shirra-Gibb (Jed-Forest) are also involved.
