Edinburgh Rugby forward David Denton was today called up to the Scotland squad which faces the world champion All Blacks at BT Murrayfield tomorrow to sit on the bench.
The 24-year-old back row, who has only just returned from an injury which has kept him out since the end of last season, replaces Glasgow Warrior Tim Swinson who has suffered a back strain in training.
Denton made his comeback from a hamstring ligament problem from off the bench in Edinburgh’s last game - a 25-17 win against Lyon in the European Challenge Cup.
Capped 22 times, Denton will be expected to cover both back row and second row with coach Vern Cotter preferring the Zimbabwe-born star to Jim Hamilton, now that he has had an extra week to develop more fitness.
Hamilton was included as bench cover for last week’s win over Argentina after Swinson pulled out but after only four minutes on the pitch his game was ended by a late yellow card.
Denton was a member of the last Scotland team to face New Zealand two years ago.
