Currie rugby club are on the lookout for a new coach after Ally Donaldson today announced he was standing down after 11 years.

Former internationalist Graham Hogg will also be stepping aside. However, neither will be lost to the club.

Donaldson, a former Scotland tour stand off, will become Head of Coaching which will involve working with youth coaches and assisting other senior teams as well as mentoring youngsters.

“I need a break from the constant Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday involvement,” said Donaldson, who will continue to coach Watson’s College first team.

Graham Hogg will be involved in driving many of the off-field developments at the club.

Hot favourite to succeed Donaldson is Steve Lawrie, assistant at Heriot’s but a former Currie player before entering the pro ranks on the way to a Scotland cap at hooker last summer possibly in partnership with another ex-Edinburgh pro recently invalided into retirement, Ben Cairns.
