East Rugby: Chris' kick steers Portobello to dramatic win

Chris Britee-Steer held his nerve to kick a conversion from the touchline in the dying seconds as Portobello defeated Broughton 50-48 in an astonishing BT East Two match.

Porty went into the lunchtime clash at Cavalry Park bottom of the league while their visitors were in mid-table, so few would have expected such an end-to-end match with 98 points.

The clubs served up a treat, though, with attacks very much on top as 15 tries were scored.

Darren Roe and Cammy Walker both scored two tries apiece for Portobello while Conor Dempsey, Sean Kneeshaw, Robbie Stewart and Keith Morrison also crossed. Morrison’s score came in the dying seconds to tie things up at 48-48.

Britee-Steer then kicked the winning points.

For Broughton, their tries came from a Connor McGrath hat-trick, Neil Armstrong, Colin Etchells, Stuart Somervail and Andrew Tainsh. Tainsh kicked the rest of the points.

Edinburgh Northern defeated Trinity Accies 17-12 with Ross High seeing off Leith 36-10.

In BT East Three, Queensferry lost 29-0 at Walkerburn.

Meanwhile, North Berwick and Murrayfield Wanderers progressed in the BT Edinburgh Regional Shield.

North Berwick edged out Penicuik 17-15 thanks to tries from Ben Inglis and Nick Hammond as well as a penalty and two conversions from Liam West.

Murrayfield Wanderers came back from Linlithgow with a 12-9 victory.

Lismore and Edinburgh University Medics both lost out in the BT East Regional Bowl.

Earlston won 27-14 at Lismore with Gala YM getting the better of the students 21-13.
