Derek O’Riordan has taken over as acting head coach of BT National League Division One side Edinburgh Accies for the rest of the season following the departure of Phil Leck.

O’Riordan, who during his playing days had a spell at Boroughmuir, has been involved in coaching heavily in various places over the last couple of years and was part of the Scotland Women’s coaching team under the previous head coach Jules Maxton. Leck, the former Hawick head coach, had been with Accies since the summer of 2014.

At that stage he took over from Jonny Else who left the club after they finished second bottom in the BT Premiership in 2013/14, only staying up after winning a play-off against Stewart’s Melville.

However, Englishman Leck could not stop Accies’ woes in the top flight and they were relegated last season, winning just five of their 18 matches to finish bottom. The team won three of their first seven matches in the second tier in recent months and Leck left ahead of win number four against Aberdeen Grammar at the weekend.

O’Riordan is being assisted by Iain Berthinussen.
