Edinburgh Rugby coach Alan Solomons is awaiting medical reports on flanker Roddy Grant, one of three players to retire injured during a 10-11 friendly defeat by Leicester at Melrose.
Dave Denton out long term, the loss of Grant, 27, could be acute as Edinburgh prepare for the second – and final – warm-up against Newcastle at Hawick on Friday.
Certainly Solomons was, initially at least, more concerned by his departure with shoulder damage than by the withdrawal of centre Chris Dean and Carl Bezuidenhuit with what were regarded as minor knocks.
“Roddy’s shoulder is more of a concern,” said an otherwise upbeat Solomons.
“It was a very good hit out. The game didn’t get loose.”
Solomons felt it ironic Edinburgh lost to a scrum penalty, the set piece going down on sub Simon Berghan’s side.
“We dominated that scrum but everybody has to get game time,” he said. “Rory Sutherland looked fantastic and at the end of 80 minutes was bound to be tired
“Simon (23) does not have the experience of John Andress (30). In a way there always a prospect of that happening.”
