Discarded Edinburgh back row player Tomas Leonardi is set to land a temporary contract with Toulouse after agreeing terms with the 19-times French champions.
The 28-year-old arrived in the Capital on a short-term deal at the start of the 2013/14 season and earned an extension that kept him at the club until this summer.
During his stay in Edinburgh, he started ten league matches and featured off the bench on a further 11 occasions
However, Leonardi, who has 18 caps for Argentina, was deemed surplus to requirements for the forthcoming campaign. He visited Toulouse’s Stade Ernest Wallon earlier in the week to undergo a medical and is now poised to join the club as World Cup cover. Toulouse will be without first-choice back-row duo Thierry Dusautoir and Louis Picamoles during the early part of the Top 14 programme because of their involvement with the French international squad.
Lombardi will join a club in a state of flux, with Fabien Pelous having taken over as head coach in place of Guy Noves, who has left after 22 years at the helm and will take over the French job from Philippe Saint-Andre following the World Cup.
