Edinburgh Rugby have named Magnus Bradbury as their captain for the 2017/18 season.

Back-row Bradbury, 22, has been chosen by new head coach Richard Cockerill to lead the team after the Englishman revealed last week that he would be looking to appoint a younger skipper for this term.

Second row Grant Gilchrist and hooker Ross Ford shared the captaincy last year.

Glasgow-born Bradbury has been twice capped by Scotland and is regarded as one of the country’s brightest prospects. He played for Oban and Boroughmuir before joining Edinburgh in 2015.

Bradbury will lead out Edinburgh when they kick off their Guinness PRO14 campaign away to Cardiff Blues on Friday night.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh have announced the signing of veteran Italian prop Michele Rizzo from Leicester. The 34-year-old, who has been capped 23 times by his country, joins on a short-term deal.
