Harry Leonard may be integral to Edinburgh Rugby’s battle for a European Cup place at Newport Gwent Dragons tonight – but the stand off is one of three heading out of Murrayfield, it emerged today.

Leonard is off to Leeds at the end of the season on a two-year deal and Piers Francis and Gregor Hunter, both of whose seasons have been wrecked by injury, will be on the move also.

It is not yet known where Francis and Hunter will be heading.

The departure of Leonard, plus Greig Laidlaw’s impending move to Gloucester, means the No.10 jersey will be a straight fight between the currently injured Greg Tonks and Carl Bezindenhout in the absence of fresh signings.

Leonard, 22, said via his management company Red Sky: “It will be a good opportunity to get more consistent game time.“

• EDINBURGH coach Alan Solomons has read the last rites to Test wing Nikki Walker, 32, saying: “Nikki Walker got an opportunity early in the season and things didn’t run for him. In terms of selection ... he hasn’t been making the team.”
