Scotland Club XV head coach Phil Smith praised match winner Jason Hill of Heriot’s.
The Scots were 18-16 down las night with ten minutes to go when back-row Hill gathered a loose kick just inside his own half and set off on a run. You got the feeling he was going to get stopped at some point, but he just kept going and going as the defence parted.
He dived over for a great solo try and with the conversion going over Scotland triumphed.
Smith, who is also Hill’s club coach, said: “I doubt we will ever hear the end of that try from Jason. All joking aside it was a great effort from him and the team did well given that Ireland kept coming back at us and that we had only had a few training sessions.”
As well as Hill, Heriot’s had Struan Cessford, Graham Wilson, Stuart Edwards, Liam Steele and Gregor McNeish involved while Iain Moody of Boroughmuir and Currie skipper Ross Weston were also part of it. Wilson kicked 13 points and Weston ran in a try as the Scots lifted the Dalriada Cup.
