Inverleith progress thanks to Hamner’s try quartet

Nick Hamner scored four tries for Inverleith in the BT Edinburgh Regional Shield on Saturday as they recorded a 52-17 win at Edinburgh Northern.

As well as Hamner’s quartet, other scores for the visitors came from Paul McCaskey, Paul Sullivan, Ernesto Peralta and Mark Freedman. Mark Cant kicked the rest of the points.

Inverleith will now host Murrayfield Wanderers in the next round after they won away at Portobello 47-10. Peter Walker led the way for Wanderers with two good tries in a competent performance.

There was also an away win for Broughton against Ross High. The men from Wardie triumphed 26-20 in Tranent thanks to two tries 
from Casper Jones and one from Luke Watson. They will host Linlithgow next up after the West Lothian outfit got the better of Leith 66-12. Josh Hares scored a hat-trick of tries.

Forrester progressed to a meeting with Penicuik, who had a bye, after they saw off Trinity Accies 51-8 at Bangholm and North Berwick and Dunbar are through after wins over Dalkeith and Liberton respectively.

Meanwhile, in BT East Three league action the Edinburgh University Medics go their first victory of the campaign when they beat Queensferry 65-5, while Lismore lost 30-29 at home to Earlston.
