Dean Reilly, a charity fundraiser who has completed seven marathons since being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and raised over £100,000 to fund research into the condition, was invited to the national stadium along with sons Dylan, Michael, aged 10, and five-year-old Aiden.

Dean was named the Evening News Local Hero for 2016 as a result of his charity efforts but the Reillys’ house was targeted by thieves in November and several valuable items with sentimental value were stolen, among them a mini replica of the Scottish Cup belonging to Dean’s son.

The Scottish FA stepped in and invited the family to visit the national stadium ‘for an evening they wouldn’t forget’ in a bid to lift the youngsters’ spirits ahead of Christmas.

The family were treated to a trip around the national stadium and the Scottish Football Museum before being taken out into the arena itself.

Unbeknownst to the Reillys, Hibs and Scotland star John McGinn was hiding ion the depths of the stadium dressed as Santa Clause, and surprised the youngsters with presents including signed Scotland jerseys.
