Lyon could be without leading points scorer Stephen Brett for Saturday’s European Challenge Cup clash with Edinburgh at the Matmut Stadium after the Kiwi was carried off during last weekend’s 23-22 defeat away to his former club Aviron Bayonnais.
Brett had earlier scored his side’s only try – Jerome Porical contributed the remaining points with a conversion and five penalties.
He was injured when he took a boot to the face from his team-mate Waisale Sukanaveita at a ruck two minutes into the second half.
The 29-year-old stand-off has featured in all 16 of Lyon’s matches in the Top 14, starting 12 times, and he has scored 71 points.
Brett had a troubled spell at Bayonne, including being disciplined for turning up at a video session after a heavy drinking session the night before.
That incident resulted in Welsh scrum-half Mike Phillips being sacked by the club and led to Brett moving to Lyon at the end of last season.
Under the coaching of Tim Lane, Brett’s attitude has been transformed and the Lyon coach will be hoping his star man can overcome the facial injury and be available for the visit of the unbeaten Capital outfit.
