North Berwick’s title hopes finished after narrow loss

Have your say

North Berwick’s hopes of winning BT East One were ended on Saturday and – despite a victory – Dalkeith’s title hopes have all but disappeared too.

Berwick need just one point from their final match on March 28 against Duns to secure the top spot and promotion.

North Berwick lost 24-20 to Dunbar at the weekend with tries from Andrew Wightman, Antoin Penrose, Kyle Smith, Blair Mills and two conversions from Ross Charlton doing the damage.

Matt Sanderson, Murray West, Grant Spence and Liam West scored NB’s tries.

Berwick defeated Hawick Harlequins 36-3 to get one hand on the trophy with Duns beating Hawick Linden 44-14.

Forrester’s slim hopes of winning BT East Two came to an end after St Boswells wrapped up the title.

The Borderers defeated Leith 86-5 while Forrester, who will finish second and were already promoted, saw off Inverleith 31-14. Lismore will finish bottom and are relegated after they went down 18-10 at home to Trinity Accies. Liberton got a victory over Edinburgh Northern 18-12 while Penicuik won 22-20 at Earlston.

In the battle of the top two in BT East Three, Ross High edged out Broughton 9-7.

The Tranent side bounced back from their BT Bowl exit seven days previously with three penalties to see off their visitors.
