Points not a postponement on StewMel’s agenda

Stewart’s/Melville coach Bruce Macnaughton has called on his side to leapfrog tomorrow’s Inverleith opponents GHA into the National League Division One play off position.

Only under-20 rep Andrew Manson and under-18 Calum Hunter-Hill are missing on international duty and rather than request dispensation, Macnaughton wants his third place side to waste no time embarking on a run of seven games that will determine whether they can earn a crack at the Premiership.

“We have had so many matches cancelled I don’t think the players would forgive me if we didn’t take any available chance to play,” said Macnaughton.

“We went down 26-28 at GHA earlier in the season and they are a very solid outfit, whose captain is former Scotland centre Andy Henderson, with the scrum-half Peter Jerecich a sevens internationalist.

“When we travelled to GHA earlier this season we came from a long way back to close the gap to a couple of points by full time and hopefully can carry on where we left off that day.”

Kick off against second place GHA is 3pm.
