Former captain Sean Crombie made his return to Boroughmuir colours in the pre-season rugby tournament at Meggetland at the weekend.
The home side took on Watsonians, Preston Lodge and Gala in a round-robin event, playing 40-minute training matches against their three visitors to allow the coaching team to have a look at the wider squad.
And, in the ‘Muir line-up, was Crombie who has returned to the Capital after a couple of years living in Dubai.
Crombie, who skippered the Scotland Club XV team in 2012 and also had a spell on the books at Edinburgh Rugby, is normally a hooker, but did play part of this pre-season tournament in the back-row.
As well as Crombie, Boroughmuir supporters got the first look at former Edinburgh Accies’ back-row Callum Reid.
Among the results for the hosts was a hard-fought win over Watsonians.
The men from Myreside defeated Preston Lodge and the likes of Scott McLeod (ex-Hawick) and former Falkirk hooker, Tom Johnson, were given their first run out in maroon and white along with a handful of teenagers. For Preston Lodge the day was valuable experience against opponents from higher divisions.
Meanwhile, Lasswade and RHC Cougars had a good run out in the former’s pre-season tournament at Hawthorden.
Kelso and Glenrothes were also involved with the Borderers coming out on top in what was a valuable event for all.
