Former club captain Rhodri Thomas is to take over as head coach of Haddington Rugby Club for the 2015/16 season, it has been announced.

Following relegation from BT National League Two after only two wins from 22, Bryan Craig has stepped down as head coach is to take a “more relaxed rugby role” with the East Lothian outfit.

He will still be involved and will help coach the minis when needed with Thomas, an exciting young coach, taking up the top job.

Thomas has cut his teeth in coaching at local rivals North Berwick and feels now the time is right to return to the club that he played for.
Former Haddington stalwart Quinton Caulfield, who was part of the team which made the Scottish Cup last four in 2009, will be alongside Thomas as the forwards coach.

They will be joined by Donald Snodgrass, captain of that 2009 cup team, who will assist with the backs.

A club statement said: “We wish the new coaching team well and have already started reviewing our playing strength so that we can get back to winning ways.

“We wish Bryan Craig well and thank him for his tremendous efforts over the last two and a half years.”
