Boroughmuir Rugby are on the lookout for a new stand off after their Scotland Under-20 pivot Ben Cooper today clinched a deal with third tier English side, Coventry.

Capped by Scotland at under-17 and under-18 levels, anglo Cooper moved north initially to Kelso before joining Boroughmuir where he achieved a goal by gaining under-20 caps.

Eligible for Scotland through grandparents from both Edinburgh and Bannockburn, Cooper enthused over a move into the pro scene, saying: “The club has a lot of ambition and an excellent environment which I hope will allow me to develop.”

• EDINBURGH’S Roddy Grant could be on the verge of a call-up to Scotland’s summer tour squad after colleague Dave Denton failed to recover from concussion.

Denton’s injury leaves coach Vern Cotter’s resources further depleted after the loss of Johnny Beattie and Al Strokosch last weekend. If it is decided to fly out cover ahead of the concluding match in South Africa next week, then the uncapped Grant appear the obvious choice.

Going into Friday’s match against Argentina there are just four fit back-rows – Chris Fusaro, Rob Harley, Kieran Low and Blair Cowan.
