Rugby: Capital side lined up to face Falcons

Have your say

Edinburgh Rugby are being lined up for a pre-season friendly at Newcastle Falcons on Friday, August 17.

It will be the second time in a recent years that Edinburgh have made the trip down the A7 and fans will doubtless want to catch an early glimpse of new signings including All Black Ben Afiga, the South African prop WP Nel, and Welsh pair John Yapp and Richie Rees.

Glasgow are expected to make the same trip a week earlier.

• ULSTER are today expected to carry out further fitness assessments on flanker Chris Henry and scrum half Paul Marshall ahead of Saturday’s Heineken European Cup semi-final with Edinburgh in Dublin.

Henry has an ankle sprain while Marshall’s injury is to his right elbow sustained earlier this against Connacht.

• SCOTLAND are in line for a trip to Australia in 2017 as part of an eight-team invitational tournament.

Wallaby bosses have confirmed that plans are at an embryonic stage for a tournament which would fill a void in their calendar with the Lions touring New Zealand, and France due to be in South Africa.

Teams being pencilled in are Australia, Scotland, Italy, Samoa, Japan, Tonga, USA and Russia.
