Currie under-16s were left distraught at the final whistle after Ayr fought back from 22-0 down to lift the National Youth Cup at Lasswade’s Hawthornden ground yesterday.

The Edinburgh side played some cracking rugby with the wind in the first half.

They went close a couple of times in the first 20 minutes before making the break through after 22 minutes.

Nathan Stewart set up captain and stand-off Fraser Wright for the score and he also converted.

After Wright had added a penalty, two well worked team tries came through full-back Bryn Perrott and second-row Cameron Harrison.

Two tries from Jamie Roberts and one from Elliot Skeoch got Ayr back into things.

In the dying seconds, Roberts got another and they won it 26-22 in dramatic circumstances.

One Capital club were celebrating though as in the under-16 Bowl final Boroughmuir defeated West of Scotland 15-12 to take home the trophy.

Jed Thistle won the under-18 Cup, and Dumfries won the under-18 Bowl.
