Heriot’s swept to the top of RBS Premier B with a resounding 74-14 win over Hamilton at Goldenacre. Graham Marshall’s men clicked into gear to run in 12 tries as they bounced back from defeat at the hands of Edinburgh Accies the previous week.
Fraser Brown, Max Learmonth, and Junior Bulumakau all touched down twice, and they were joined on the scoresheet by Andy Scott, Jamie Parker, Jason Hill, Gregor Lawson, Stewart Mustard and Graham Wilson, who also slotted seven conversions.
The Goldenacre men will be back in action tomorrow when they face Haddington in the RBS Cup at Meggetland.
By contrast, the challenge of Watsonians appears to have hit a wall after going down 28-20 at Jedforest. Tries by Jamie Niven, Dylan Brass and Mark Rennie plus a penalty and conversion from Brian Walls proved insufficient for the Myreside men.
Meanwhile, in Premier A, Boroughmuir produced another improved performance to see off Aberdeen Grammar 27-7 at Meggetland and offer hope for Fergus Pringle’s men that they can mount a challenge in the RBS Cup – their campaign in that competition continues this week with a tie against Biggar.
Muir’s first league success since October featured two tries by Sean Crombie – taking his tally to 14 for the season – skipper Malcolm Clapperton and Iain Moody, while Ally Warnock booted the other points.
Elsewhere, Haddington chalked up their fifth win of the RBS Premier 3 campaign when they saw off Morgan Academy 14-12 at Neilson Park. The East Lothian outfit had tries by James Ferguson and Neil Watt, who also slotted both conversions.
Lasswade travelled to face league pacesetters Kirkcaldy but Dave Cockburn’s men succumbed 27-8.
Dale Robertson dotted down for the Lasswade try, and Gavin Brown booted the other points in a defeat which virtually rules out the possibility of a top-five finish.
