Scottish Rugby have revealed the new international kits for the 2020/21 season – with a little touch to honour the 150th anniversary of the first ever international rugby match.

Both Scotland’s men and women teams will sport a traditional navy-blue shirt with touches of white and gold and an embossed tartan effect.

There is also the reintroduction of white shorts and navy socks, which harks back to some of the more iconic Scottish kits from the past.

The incorporation of gold into the design commemorates the upcoming anniversary of the first international, played between Scotland and England at Raeburn Place in Edinburgh in 1871.

The Scotland ‘alternate’ shirt returns to white for the first time since the 2017/18 season, paired with navy shorts and predominantly white socks. It also features the same gold detailing from the home kit on the sleeves.

Scotland 7s will be sporting a predominantly vibrant raspberry ‘alternate’ kit for the 2020/21 campaign, with navy piping featuring on the sleeves, hem and collar.

Scottish Rugby’s chief operating officer Dominic McKay said: “In the season which includes the 150th anniversary of the first ever international rugby match, we felt it appropriate that the match kits to be worn by all of our national teams have a very traditional look, albeit with a modern twist. As ever we are indebted to Macron for designing and producing such striking kits which I am certain will be popular with players and fans alike.

“The fact that Macron will be opening a Scottish Rugby retail store in Central Glasgow in the coming weeks again demonstrates the depth and value of our partnership as well as being great news for our supporters in the West of Scotland.”

Macron CEO Gianluca Pavanello said: “Scotland is the first international rugby team that Macron sponsored so we feel a special bond with all at Scottish Rugby but with such a special relationship comes the added pressure to make each kit unique. In a special season where Scotland reaches such a momentous milestone and Macron celebrates moving to its brand new custom built HQ we hope these kits embody the deep history of Scottish Rugby.”

Kits can be purchased exclusively in-store at the Scottish Rugby Store at BT Murrayfield or online at shop.scottishrugby.org from Friday 28th August 2020 and from other Macron authorised stockists as of Friday 4 September 2020.
