Sevens joy for Sonians while Muir fall short

Have your say

Boroughmuir reached the semi-finals of the Gala Sevens while Watsonians won the Haddington Sevens on a busy weekend.

At Netherdale yesterday in the first of the Kings of the Sevens events, Boroughmuir saw off Hawick and Currie in their pool to progress to the last four.

Sadly no other local teams – Watsonians, Edinburgh Accies, Currie or Stewart’s Melville – made it past the pool stage. In the semi-final, Boroughmuir ran out of steam and lost 32-14 to Jed-Forest.

On Saturday in East Lothian, Watsonians came out on top in the Haddington event.

The men from Myreside progressed to the last four and then put in a good showing to defeat Edinburgh Accies, whose squad included Alex Blair.

In the final, Watsonians came up against a Musselburgh squad who were still buzzing from their first XV winning promotion seven days previously.

Musselburgh had impressed in dispatching the President’s VII and Dunbar on the way but, despite the best efforts of Danny Owenson, they fell short in the final. The winning Watsonians squad was made up of Craig Barrie, Ross Buchan, Martin Christie, Callum Harvey, Ryan Southern, Euan McKirdy, Eti Slater, Chris Hunter, Robbie Greenhalgh and Rory Steele.
