Murrayfield rugby union bosses should learn tonight whether Scots qualified kiwi rugby league internationalist Kevin Locke is willing to furthr discuss a contract opportunity.
A deadline of 5.30pm is believed to have been set by the Scottish Rugby Union after meetings with 25-year-old Salford Red Devils full back in Manchester.
If Locke shows interest then it is expected he will travel north for a medical and further talks.
An allocation to either Edinburgh or Glasgow could follow in due course.
By Sunday evening it seemed Locke was intent on staying at Salford having made his position clear on social media.
However, those posts appear to have been deleted today and an updated reference to “moving on” could be interpreted as putting the SRU approach behind him and seeing out the remainder of his contract .... or seeking a fresh start.
Should Locke, who played in the 2013 world cup final against Australia, show interest in moving north then questions will have to be answered concerning the extent of a groin injury which has restricted recent outings with Salford.
Also, SRU officials are known to want to see written evidence of the player’s Scottish connections being attributed to his father.
