Edinburgh Accies’ Nyle Godsmark and Heriot’s Liam Steele led the way with four tries apiece on the day as the Scottish Thistles finished third at the GB 7s event at Meggetland.
Captain Godsmark and his twin bother Ryan were involved in the squad along with club team-mate Iain Chisholm while Steele was joined by Heriot’s team-mate Murray Douglas. Alex Cox (Boroughmuir) and George Horne (Currie) were also in action.
The Thistles won their pool with victories over Crawshays Welsh, Irish Exiles and the Wailers with the latter team featuring Edinburgh Accies’ Alex Blair.
All of that set up a semi-final with Samurai who had looked good all afternoon. In a cracking sevens ties the Thistles scored tries through Nyle Godsmark, Horne and Steele, but they were edged out 31-26.
The Thistles were visibly frustrated by that loss, but picked themselves up in the early evening sunshine with tries from Steele, Cox and Mill in a 21-17 win over the Irish Exiles in the third/fourth place match.
In the final, England IPF beat Samurai 21-17. The series moves on to Wales this weekend with some of the Thistles also hoping for a Scotland Sevens call-up for an event in Lyon.
