North Berwick’s new coaching team of ex-Scotland internationalists Jason White and Lindsay Renwick got a win under their belts in the BT East One season opener on Saturday.
Ever since White and Renwick joined in the summer there has been excitement around the club as they aim to better last year’s third-place finish. And it was an unblemished start as they beat Dunbar at home 36-0.
Murray West led the way with two tries while Finlay Hutchison and Andrew Grant-Suttie also crossed to make sure of the bonus point.
Liam West also had a good afternoon, kicking four penalties and two conversions. Scotland age-grade cap Grant-Suttie was named man of the match.
Linlithgow also got their campaign off to a good start in the same division with a 23-13 victory over Forrester.
Chris Bredin scored a try for the West Lothian men while Josh Haires also went over and Jack Frame kicked the rest of the points.
No other local club won on day one, newly-relegated Murrayfield Wanderers were edged out 21-20 at Hawick Harlequins and Dalkeith lost 25-14 at St Boswells. Duns defeated Hawick Linden.
Leith are top of the fledgling East Two table after they played some good rugby to beat Liberton 35-12. Inverleith, Penicuik, Edinburgh Northern and Trinity Accies also secured victories, all five matches being won by the home team.
In East Three, Queensferry won 49-28 against Walkerburn, but Lismore lost at home to Gala YM.
