Rugby World Cup 2011: Logan says Scots will worry the English

KENNY LOGAN believes statistics paint a false picture of Scotland’s previous encounters with England – insisting it is Martin Johnson who should be most scared ahead of their do-or-die Rugby World Cup clash.

Last weekend’s 13-12 loss to Argentina means Andy Robinson’s side need to beat Johnson’s England by eight points in Auckland tomorrow – a feat they haven’t achieved for 25 years – to make certain their passage out of Pool B.

Scotland triumphed 33-6 during the 1986 Five Nations in Edinburgh but have gone on to taste victory just four times since – the last win coming in the 2008 Six Nations.

Logan is adamant Johnson’s troops are ripe for a fall – even if he doesn’t believe Scotland can deny the Auld Enemy the bonus point to send them packing.

“Scotland have got a big task ahead of them – I always tend to back my own team but I think it is going to be very difficult to beat England by eight points,” said Logan, who won 70 caps for Scotland.

“Every England game is mostly settled by one or two points but World Cups are there for shocks and people said that the Argentina game was a shock but they were semi-finalists last time.

“It was disappointing against Argentina but I think England will be slightly concerned because Scotland are a bit of a banana skin. The last three or four games Scotland have played against England you could say that we have deserved to win all of them – they won one of them and drew one as well.”
