Scotland a threat, says Scrivener

Former Edinburgh Rugby interim coach Nick Scrivener is to assist his native Australia alongside supremo Robbie Deans and has been quick to warn Wallabies of the threat posed by Scotland, who tour this summer.

Says Scrivener, who took up the Edinburgh reins between the tenures of Rob Moffat and Michael Bradley: “They [Scotland] will be looking for this tour to really springboard them, generation next is coming through. They’ve done it before, they got us at Murrayfield, they beat South Africa, Samoa, Argentina. In tournament rugby they haven’t done so well, but in these situations they’ve got a really good history.”

Scotland appear to have been given a break with the Test set for Tuesday, June 5, between a round of Super 15 and an Aussie match against Wales. Scrivener knows the difficulties that poses.

“One thing I did pick up in Scotland was squad management, given we had players dropping out for Tests quite often and it was great to experience that, given the role I am heading into,” he said.

n STEVE LAWRIE will assist Phil Smith, new Heriot’s head coach, next season and not Andy Kelly as we reported yesterday. Apologies for this error.
