Scots chase Olympic mark in weekend meetings

The athletics season can burst into life with the British Milers Club Nike Grand Prix in Manchester tomorrow and the Loughborough International on Sunday when Scotland face England, Wales, GB Juniors, British Universities and Loughborough Past and Present, writes SANDY SUTHERLAND.

Bidding to meet the Olympic qualifying mark, Freya Murray (Edinburgh AC) will run in the 5000 metres in Manchester, along with Eilish McColgan (Dundee) and European Junior champion Emelia Gorecka (Aldershot).

Lynsey Sharp (EAC) will compete in the 800m, while clubmate Emily Dudgeon has been named in the GB Junior side for Loughborough where the 800m includes World 1500m silver medallist Hannah England.

The men’s 800m features Lasswade’s Guy Learmonth for the host side against Scotland’s new 1500m sensation Dave Bishop.

Eilidh Child (Pitreavie) chases the UK A standard of 55.50 for the 400m hurdles as will Capital high jumpers Jayne Nisbet and Emma Nuttall.
