Quin has received official confirmation that he will compete in the 200 metres breaststroke in Brazil.

The 25-year-old narrowly missed out on a place in London four years ago, but has now be given the opportunity to live out his dream of representing his country on the biggest stage.

Quin won his first international gold at the European Championships in Madeira earlier this month and appears to be hitting form just at the right time.

“My coach Chris [Gilchrist] has pushed me so much over the last four years and Rio has always been my aim after missing out on London,” Quin said. “I hit the qualifying time at the trials last month so that gave me the confidence to think I had a real chance of making the team.

“But you can’t write off anyone when I go over there. I’m just going to keep my head down between now and then and ensure I’m doing everything right to prepare. It would be nice to get any medal at the Paralympics.”

Quin believes his recent performance in Funchal has given him an insight into what he can expect in South America in three months time.

“Madeira was my first international gold medal so I was delighted,” he said, “but I’ve never been so nervous as I was in the final. I qualified in first place and was given the middle lane. It all hit home when I was on that starting block. I was just standing there saying to myself, ‘Oh my god’. But I put in a great performance and came home with gold.”
