The Granton player, who lost out in the final two years ago, faces three-times winner Keith Chalmers over the best of nine frames. Chalmers, of Corstorphine, earned his place in the final after coming from 3-1 down to defeat John Williamson.

MacGillivray said: “The East of Scotland Championship has a lot of history and it is one that every snooker player in the East wants to win.

“I never managed to win it before I went professional and, since dropping off the pro circuit, I have just not managed to get over the line. It will be a tough match as Keith knows what it takes to win this title and he probably can feel a bit less pressure than I will having won it a few times. However, I have been playing well en-route to the final so can hopefully put in a good performance.”

Meanwhile, Capital players Robert Carlisle and Lee Mein both made winning starts in the group stages of the European Championships in Wroclaw in Poland as 147 players from 38 countries battle it out for a place in the knockout phase. Carlisle defeated Nicolas Riviere (France) 4-0 while Mein defeated Poland’s Daniel Holoyda 4-0 and Sasa Stojanovic (Serbia) 4-2.
