GRANTON snooker ace Craig MacGillivray hopes to continue his perfect start to the season when he meets Falkirk’s Michael Philbin in the final of the Scottish Masters Series Event One at The Creamery Club in Falkirk tonight.

MacGillivray, 41, who started this season by winning the opening Main Tour Event last month, was made to battle to reach the final. After defeating Paul Jamieson (Dumfries) 4-2 in the quarter-finals, he was tied at 2-2 with Paul Shanks (Peebles) and looking like going 3-2 behind when 26 behind on the yellow. However, MacGillivray recovered to clear the colours to steal the frame before going on to win the next to secure his place in the final.

Philbin, a former Scottish No. 1 and national champion, defeated Clydebank’s Giulio Rae 4-2 in the other semi final.
