Bonnyrigg snooker professional Michael Leslie made the perfect start to the 2015/2016 snooker season, defeating England’s James Cahill 5-3 in the Australian Open qualifiers.

After Leslie started brightly winning the opening three frames, Cahill fought back to win the next three to level at 3-3. Cahill then looked set to go ahead for the first time in the match as Leslie needed a snooker with only pink and black remaining in the seventh frame, however, Leslie got the snooker and potted pink and black to lead 4-3. The Capital cueman then pocketed a break of 101 to secure a 5-3 victory to set up a clash with England’s Sam Baird today.

Musselburgh’s Ross Muir made breaks of 54, 67 and 61 in his opening round 5-4 victory over Callum Downing and will now play Michael Georgiou. However, Scott Donaldson lost 5-1 to England’s Adam Duffy.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh’s Lee Mein made a good start at the European Championships in Prague, defeating local player Jakub Rendla 4-0.
