Bonnyrigg cueman Michael Leslie was set to face England’s Mark King today in the opening qualifying round of the 2015 Betfred World Snooker Championship.
Leslie, 22, who reached the last 32 of a world ranking event for the first time last week after an excellent run in the China Open, plays King over the best of 19 frames at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield.
Leslie said: “This is my third World Championship. The first year was just a learning experience and last year I went into the event in poor form. This year I am going into the event playing well and feeling confident after a good run in the China Open so I am looking forward to it. After a difficult season, I am really pleased with how I have finished it.”
Speaking of opponent King, currently world ranked 33, Leslie added “It is a tough draw as Mark is a great player. He was a top-16 player for a long time and has played at the Crucible several times so he will be looking to get back there again. I will definitely need to bring my “A” game if I am going to make it through.”
Musselburgh’s Ross Muir is also in action today against China’s Cao Yupeng.
