Musselburgh teenager Ross Muir reached the second qualifying round of the Dafabet World Championship last night after a superb 10-6 victory over England’s David Grace.
Muir made a slow start, in his first World Championship, falling 4-1 behind as Grace made runs of 54, 57 and 71 before Muir pulled the score back to 4-4 with breaks of 123 and 57.
The next four frames were shared as Grace made breaks of 50 and 68 while Muir continued to score well, making breaks of 76 and 80.
However, the young Scot then took control of the match to win the next four frames, finishing off with a break of 60 to secure a second-round clash with former World Championship finalist Nigel Bond today.
Locarno Snooker Club’s Scott Donaldson is also through after defeating Qatar’s Ahmed Saif 10-6 and will now play China’s Cao Yupeng, knowing victory could secure his place in the World’s top 64 going into next season.
