Musselburgh’s Ross Muir lost out 6-5 to Thepchaiya Un-Nooh in the first round of the final stages of the International Snooker Championships in China yesterday.

Muir, who defeated fellow-Scot Alan McManus earlier this month to qualify, made a break of 118 in the fourth frame as he took a 3-1 lead, despite runs of 60 and 78 from his opponent. However, breaks of 83 and 67 helped Un-Nooh win the next three frames to lead 4-3 before Muir levelled the match again at 4-4 with a break of 79.

The next two frames were shared, before Un-Nooh held his nerve to make a break of 51 in the decider to pocket a 6-5 victory.
