Capital cueman snooker Michael Leslie is only one win away from qualifying for the final stages of the Australian Open after a superb 5-0 whitewash of England’s Sam Baird.

Leslie dominated the match from the start with runs of 83 and 60 to lead 2-0. He then quickly won the next three frames, including another break of 69, to wrap up victory and set up a last-48 clash with England’s Martin Gould today for a place in the last 32 later this month.

At the European Championships in Prague, Edinburgh’s Robert Carlisle won his opening match 4-0 against Stanislaw Privitzer (Czech Republic). However, Lee Mein lost 4-1 in his second group stage match to Croatia’s Tin Venos.
