Musselburgh snooker player Ross Muir produced a fantastic performance to defeat world No.14 Stephen Maguire before being edged out at the last-32 stage of the Gdynia Open in Poland.

The teenager recovered from losing the opening frame against Maguire to make runs of 52, 50 and 63 to lead 3-1. Although Maguire levelled the match with breaks of 58 and 99, Muir held his nerve to win a tight final frame.

Muir then followed up with a fine 4-2 break over England’s Joel Walker, making an 82 to clinch victory.

However, despite making runs of 57 and 106 to lead 3-1 against England’s Stuart Carrington in the last 32, the Englishman finished off with breaks of 93 and 95 to win the match 4-3 and end Muir’s great run.

Bonnyrigg’s Michael Leslie lost out 4-2 to Nottingham’s Anthony Hamilton, while Scott Donaldson lost 4-1 to Peter Ebdon, as the former world champion made breaks of 70, 92, 52 and 71.
