Edinburgh’s Robert Carlisle won the battle for top spot in the Scottish amateur snooker rankings when he defeated team-mate Lee Mein in the final of Main Tour Event 2 at Locarno Snooker Club.

After the first four frames were shared, Carlisle edged in front by winning the fifth frame before making a break of 71 in the sixth, the highest break of the match, to lead 4-2.

Although Mein reduced the deficit by winning the next, Carlisle won the eighth frame for a 5-3 victory. Meanwhile Craig MacGillivray and Derek Dudgeon had mixed fortunes in their opening group matches at the IBSF World Snooker Masters Championships in Bangalore, India. MacGillivray made breaks of 51 and 60 in a 3-1 victory over South Africa’s Igshaan Stanfield.

However, Dudgeon lost 3-0 to India’s Nadeem Ahmed.
