EDINBURGH MONARCHS skipper Craig Cook has been named in the ten-man Team GB squad for the first round of this year’s Speedway World Cup at King’s Lynn next month.
Manager Alun Rossiter will whittle that down to the final five (four starters plus one reserve) for the clash against Australia, USA and Latvia on June 8.
Rossiter said: “The majority of the squad contain riders who have made a good start to the season and over the next few weeks I’ll be watching individual performances before submitting my starting line-up for the tournament.”
Cook will certainly need to impress, The Englishman, by his own admission, has been struggling for form so far this year.
If selected, Cook could face a couple of his Monarchs team-mates at King’s Lynn after Aussie boss Mark Lemon named Sam Masters and Justin Sedgmen in his ten-man squad which also includes Cook’s Belle Vue colleague Max Fricke, who joined the Manchester outfit from Monarchs over the winter.
