Aussie Justin Sedgmen was today revealed as the first rider to re-sign for Edinburgh Monarchs for their 2015 speedway campaign.

And he said: “It’s a pretty cool feeling to be the first one named and I’m excited to be back for next season.”

Sedgmen is already planning an early return to the UK to make plans for his second campaign in Monarchs colours. “Most riders’ like to stay at home as long as they can but I want to get back over as early as I can to get everything ready, and hopefully enjoy another good season,” he said.

“Ideally I wanted to be signed up before I flew home, but that didn’t happen. But there wasn’t any doubt that I would be back at Armadale and it feels great to be first on the roster.”

Monarchs took a gamble in hiring Sedgmen this year after he sat out the 2013 season, but their faith paid off in spades. He came in on a 4.99 average, which the Monarchs management felt he was capable of increasing.

And Sedgmen did exactly that, ending the season on a respectable 6.99 figure. He also finished with the biggest haul of bonus points of anyone in the Premier League.

“I just hope I can improve on that again,” added Sedgmen.” That’s always the plan. Improve on where you have been and make sure you are heading in the right direction. The last couple of experiences I had in British speedway were not that good. But joining Edinburgh was great for me, as was the fantastic success the team enjoyed last season. If we can do that again in 2015 it would be fantastic, but it will be tough.”

Monarchs boss Alex Harkess commented: “Justin was so keen to come back, and we are glad to have him back. He was never going anywhere else.”
