Claims that big spending Glasgow Tigers made a bold bid to lure Edinburgh Monarchs star speedway duo of Craig Cook and Sam Masters to Ashfield next season have been denied.

The Tigers, who are under new ownership, are undertaking a renovation plan to transform their outdated Saracen Park venue into a plush modern arena. It is also believed that the new owners have splashed out a six-figure sum so far on their squad for next season.

But Harkess insisted: “I have known about Glasgow’s top three signings for some time and there was no way they could have fitted Craig or Sam into their line-up.

“It would be the last place on earth they would go to and that’s why I did not believe it and the idea was dismissed. I have had no phone calls and received no request from
Glasgow to speak to any of our riders.

“It made no sense and it
was a non-starter. It was fan talk really.”

Monarchs are still on the hunt for the last rider to complete their roster for 2015 and are looking at three possible candidates.

“There has been no further progress at the moment,” said Harkess. “We are pushing on with more than one candidate in case our preferred choice falls by the wayside.”
