Tonight’s Championship speedway encounter between Edinburgh Monarchs and Ipswich Witches was called off despite the start time being delayed by 45 minutes to give the track staff the opportunity to make the circuit rideable after an afternoon of heavy downpours.
In the end their efforts were to no avail. Monarchs team manager Alex Harkess said: “We did our best to get the meeting on but it became clear that we were unable to get the track into a rideable condition despite our best efforts.”
The fixture might be restaged within the next fortnight, with the Caledonian Riders Championship or Monarchs’ inter league challenge match against Buxton possibly making way for the return of Ipswich.
Monarchs head to Sheffield Tigers on Sunday for a 3pm Championship encounter seeking to avenge their recent home defeat by the Yorkshire side who top the table.
Monarchs star Mark Riss will now make his return from injury in this match. Riss dislocated his hand against Ipswich back in June.
