Cegg, 21, who hails from Brighouse, West Yorkshire, said: “I’m looking forward to racing for Edinburgh again. I’m looking to raise my average again.

“I know there are only a limited amount of meetings left and feel I have struggled a little bit this year. But I think this move will do me good. I go well round Armadale, and importantly, I have ridden some of the bigger tracks better this year.

“I’m very excited to be back with Monarchs. I rode with Erik (Riss), Ricky (Wells), and Josh (Pickering) last year and I know new signing Richie Worrall quite well because my mechanic Matthew helps him.”

Clegg comes into the team on a three-point average having left last season on a four-point mark. He added: “Next Friday will be my first meeting back with Monarchs and I always seem to go well against Redcar Bears. I’m hoping I can go straight in and carry on from where I left off, I’m looking forward to it, I really am.”

Monarchs released Mark Ruml and Mark Riss this week. Riss has signed for Ipswich Witches.
