Monarchs' clash with Workington falls victim to rain

Edinburgh Monarchs' scheduled Championship Shield speedway opener against Workington Comets has been postponed with the Armadale track staff unable to get the circuit into a raceable condition for tonight's match.

It was the second washout Monarchs have suffered since the season began earlier this month. A Monarchs spokesman said: “With the track already waterlogged following heavy overnight rain, it was concluded it would not be possible to get the track into a fit state for racing with the temperature again at a low level.”

No restaging date has yet been announced. Monarchs travel to Workintgon on Saturday in the hope of getting their qualifying group up and running. Monarchs have a decent record at Derwent Park, winning there once last season.
