Edinburgh Monarchs duo Sam Masters and Kevin Wolbert could miss the Capital side’s Premier League speedway clash against Plymouth Devils at Armadale on Friday, June 26 after getting through to the GP Race-Off following their qualification from the meeting at Abensberg, Germany, last weekend.
The pair qualified last weekend after a strong showing on the continent. Masters finished the race in second place on 12 points, with Wolbert scoring 11 points. That forced him into a play-off for third place with Peter Kildemund and Kim Nilsson, but he suffered engine failure and ended up fifth overall.
Now they must wait and see which of the two Race-Off rounds they will participate in. If they are drawn to ride in Latvia, it is likely they will not be available for the Devils fixture, but a Monarchs spokesman said: “However if they drawn to race in Italy it’s possible they will be at Armadale on the Friday.” Both riders’ preference is Italy.
Meanwhile, Masters and former Monarch Max Fricke have been left out of the Australian starting quartet for next month’s World Cup clash against USA, Latvia ,and Great Britain at King’s Lynn. Team-mate Craig Cook did not make the GB final four either.
